Grapefruit is something of a polarizing fruit don’t you think? Some people really love it, while others can simply never get past the sharp tartness of it.

There was a study done among 91 obese patients which split them into four groups:

  • Group one was given a placebo
  • Group two received grapefruit capsules
  • Group three had to drink grapefruit juice
  • Group four ate fresh grapefruit

The participants had to consume these three times a day before each meal over 12 weeks.

The results? The fresh grapefruit group lost the most weight, the grapefruit juice drinkers came in second place, and the capsule consumers fared better than the placebo takers.

The reason for this is probably that the grapefruit eaters got more whole fiber, which generally helps control appetite better than plain juice.

If you really struggle with the taste then try using it in a smoothie along with other fruits.
