All of us itch sometimes, and let’s be honest about it – an itch is something that most of us find pretty well impossible to simply ignore. We just have to scratch it, even though social norms sometimes constrain us in the attempt!
Most of the time, our itches have a normal and readily identifiable cause such as an insect bite or an allergy etc. and are of no cause for concern. Eventually the bite will ease and the allergen will disappear.
However if this isn’t the case and you get sudden and/or persistent itches with no apparent cause, then you might want your doctor to have a look. There could possibly be a more serious underlying cause for it, including, but not limited to:
- skin cancer
- psoriasis
- fungal infection
- bacterial/viral infections such impetigo or folliculitis
- eczema
- dermatitis
